Sustainable Swimwear - Don't worry babe, we have you covered.

One of the OGs of sustainability and the inspiration for our search of more brands that follow this brand’s lead. Mara Hoffman founded her label in the year 2000 and is historically known for her signature prints and silhouettes. Hoffman strongly believes in mindful and conscious practices, which are at the crux of the company’s ethos and the main reason why we love her so much. Mara Hoffman wasn’t originally founded on the principles of sustainability and for a long time didn’t fully understand the impact the fashion industry had on the world, but once they tuned in they couldn’t un-see. Awareness was the motivation for their transformation and we give them props for not turning a blind eye. They now focus on using more eco-conscious and sustainable materials including ECONYL®, which is 100% regenerated nylon fiber made from fishnets and other nylon waste. They are committed to responsible manufacturing practices, including working in partnership with artisans in India in an effort to create sustainable employment that is socially and environmentally-responsible, with a focus on women. Even their hang-tags are eco-friendly and made from 80% post-consumer waste/blotter stock. They really have thought of everything! And with these color palates, we couldn’t be happier!

Easy and Effortless – sustainable swimwear for the girl next door! These are the best bathing suits for rolling out of bed and heading straight to the water. What is the best part of these styles? Over half of Reformation’s garments are made with stuff like Tencel, Viscose, and recycled materials, which use way fewer resources than conventional cotton, and are less-polluting than oil-based fabrics to produce. Their factory uses efficient, eco-friendly and pro-social technologies. They invest in green building infrastructure to minimize their waste, water, and energy footprints. By providing on-the-job training and opportunities for growth, they also invest in the people who make this revolution possible! They even made getting to work part of their mission by offering Metro passes to our entire HQ team to encourage more use of public transportation. We are hooked!

This is our go to brand for when we are in the mood for a very sleek and modern look. We imagine ourselves wearing these suits as we dive off our sail boats into the Mediterranean (we can dream, right?). Not only are these bathing suits sexy and sporty but they are made out of high quality recycled textiles from Italy that carries the Made in Green by OEKO-TEX® certification, guaranteeing that they are tested for harmful substances and are made in environmentally friendly facilities and socially responsible workplaces. Now that’s sexy!

Here is another brand that we find oh so sophisticated and classy. We can see ourselves lying out at a Hampton’s pool party spread out on a giant white –maybe even gold -swan float (with a champagne flute in our hand of course). Why do we love this brand? Born out of a love for art, design, and color they make their product in small quantities, locally, and with eco-conscious materials. Sustainability + perfect designs = our dream come true.

We love this brand because of the work they do in making ethical and sustainable fashion cool and on trend. They donate 10% of their profits to marine conservation and partner with local and global environmental organizations to help tackle environmental issues. They manufacture their product in Austraila which is where the company is based. This way they don’t lose the skill and industry locally and they reduce their carbon footprint. The swimwear is made from yarn that is produced from single use recycled plastic bottles and fishing nets, and then re-spun and finished into an amazing bi-stretch fabric that feels and fits amazing. Super cool, if you ask us!

A collection of wetsuits and bikinis made for women who are tomboys at heart and believe the ocean is a magical place. These suites accommodate the demand to remain durable during active lifestyles, yet still be fashionable. The materials they use are UV- protective, fast-drying, and ensure a high shape retention over time. The environment is very dear to them, and they are very proud to be exclusively using fabrics that will do no harm to our Planet. The wetsuits and neoprene bikinis are 100% Japanese limestone neoprene, made out of eco-friendly rubber that is warmer, lighter and ultra durable. We are so happy to hear this because now we can wear guilt free gear while paddle boarding at the Rockaways.

Strong and feminine. We love these prints and silhouettes. This is no ordinary swim suit. The seams lie flat against the skin. The quality is meticulous. The fit is hip-slimming, curve-hugging, bust-boosting, figure-flattering perfection. They (like us) see the future of fashion as sustainability—and Vitamin A is leading the way as they lighten their environmental footprint one suit at a time. This brand uses EcoLuxTM, their superfine matte jersey swim fabric produced locally in California, using recycled nylon fiber to conserve resources and LYCRA XTRA LIFE® fiber which extends the life of each swimsuit far beyond that of traditional spandex products. They employ waterless digital printing technology, incorporate sustainable fibers like Eco Linen, and choose factories that conserve water and energy use. Vitamin A also donates a percentage of profits to environmental organizations which is something we can always swim behind!
